MYO NOW OFFICIALLY EVEN HEALTHIER

Australia’s lunch time favourite MYO is now offering its customers healthier eating options via two new partnerships with Diabetes WA and Diabetes Australia – Queensland.

Special make-your-own menus, designed by dietitians from both diabetes associations are now available in every store. MYO’s Byron Smith said the company is proud to play a part in supporting awareness and prevention of diabetes throughout Australia.

“We now have even more great options for our customers to choose from. Importantly, for those either with the disease or at risk of developing diabetes there are new meal choices more suited to their dietary needs. All people need to do is look for the sun in store or online for these healthy menu choices,” said Mr Smith.

Diabetes Australia – Queensland CEO, Michelle Trute, said healthy eating is critical for the 1.5 million people affected by diabetes.

“When there are 275 Australians developing diabetes each day and more than $10.3 billion spent on diabetes treatment each year, it really drills home how prevalent diabetes is in Australia,” Ms Trute said.

“We know that both obesity and physical inactivity are significant risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes – which accounts for about 90% of all diabetes in Australia. We’re happy to partner with MYO and are pleased to see them making a difference in this important area by creating healthier lunch options.”

The diabetes epidemic caused or contributed to almost 10 percent of deaths in Australia in 2005 and is a major trigger for heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure and amputation.

“Community health initiatives, in particular the partnerships with Diabetes WA and Diabetes Australia – Queensland are a natural progression for MYO as healthy food and choice is our business,” Mr Smith said.

“Our ultimate goal is to have this partnership in place with all Diabetes Australia organisations nation wide.”

The diabetes partnerships follow on from a nation-wide MYO brand relaunch.
